The Oakeshott Typology

If you are new to this whole medieval sword collecting, there is one author you absolutely need to know about. This guy is Ewart Oakeshott.

Born in 1916, Mr. Oakeshott was a British Illustrator, collector, and historian who is remembered for his writings about medieval arms and armour. His greatest achievement is the system he created for the classification of medieval swords called the Oakeshott typology.

This classification method is still used to this day as the premiere work on the systematic organization of medieval weaponry.
