The Popularity of Rambo Knives

The Rambo movie series are classics and even though they are not new, they still maintain a great deal of their popularity. Of course there are certain elements of the movies which catch people’s attentions and among those are the Rambo survival knives. In each movie Rambo has a knife that is always with him and which he often uses in order to survive through the movie. These movies are also the reason that survival knives now are generally just referred to as Rambo knives.

Survival knives were a new form of the standard combat knife and they were first seen and made popular in First Blood, which was the first movie. Each of the following sequels, Rambo II, Rambo III and John Rambo, also had their own unique survival knives which were used by the main character. These have been replicated and the ones worth purchasing will always meet certain requirements. All collectors, regardless of whether into general items or fans of Rambo, should be aware of these.

A collectible Rambo knife should have original licensing and come with a certificate of authenticity. In order to keep it safe it should be on a plaque and put up on display or in a glass casing. It should also be made of materials that are of higher quality so that it does not easily get scratched or broken. The best Rambo knives for collectors would be limited and special editions since they are rarer and have a higher chance of being worth more money one day. Having the complete collection makes it even more valuable.

Here are some of the Limited edition Rambo Knives available on the market:

There is the Original Rambo Knife signature edition. This particular item is limited to 5000 pieces worldwide and comes with a certificate of authenticity. these are made by United Cutlery and no other, be carefull.

The Rambo II signature edition knife. Based on the props used in the second movie, this is an exact replica that includes a certificate of authenticity by Master Cutlery.

The Rambo III knife 20th anniversary edition is the limited edition of the props seen in the third movie of the serie. There is also the Rambo III signature edition kinfe availalbe as a limited edition collectible.

And Finally the Latest addition to the Rambo Knives collection, the Rambo 4 knife signature edition. This item is a limited edition collectible, include a certificate of authenticity and a leather scabbard.

Rambo knives can also be useful, though. Campers and outdoor enthusiasts can have a copy of the original survival knife in the movie and use it for camping trips, hikes or other outdoor experiences. This is because the Rambo knife includes a survival kit in the handle and a compass so that you don’t lose your way. If the blade is made of stainless steel or carbon steel then it is also perfect for cutting ropes or even gutting fish that you catch while on a camping trip.

Choose Your Fencing Swords Wisely

When it comes to fencing swords, there is much to keep in mind and take into consideration before purchasing. There are various types of swords for fencing and each has its own unique characteristics that make it suitable for the sport. However, not just people who train in the fencing sport should have a suitable sword. There are also many collectors who can add the various historical based models to their sword collection and there are also many battle reenactments that involve fencing swords.

The rapier swords are one kind of fencing sword and are most notable for their elaborate hilt that also serves as a hand protector. All rapiers are lightweight and easy to handle so they make great fencing swords. A battle ready rapier with a blade of high carbon steel can be used in professional fencing competitions and also for historical reenactments. There are also many replicas of rapiers that are on display in various historical museums and showplaces and such a sword makes a great piece to put on display.

Below are just a few of the Rapier swords that you can add to your sword collection:

The Bone handled swept hilt rapier  is a beautiful rapier replica designed by Paul Chen. If you are looking for a quality rapier sword, this is one rapier you might want to take a look at. There is also the simple but very high quality Hanwei swept hilt rapier. Of course these are just a few of the rapier sword you can collect or use as a fencing weapon.

Both collectors and fencing experts will also be able to appreciate the saber. This type of fencing sword is usually long, but only weighs a little over a pound which makes it easy to handle even for young people. The blade itself is very thin and just like a rapier it also has a hand guard, just that the hilt is not that eye-catching.

Generally speaking, those that want to own fencing swords to put on display or complete a collection of historical items from a certain era should stick to the more exquisite, handcrafted weapons. If the fencing swords are replicas of famous models then a certificate of authenticity should be included and the weapon put in a safe place for display.

Those competing in fencing competitions, whether modern or as part of a reenactment should purchase fencing swords that are specifically suitable for this purpose. They must have sharpened blades of high carbon steel and have the proper kind of handle that is easily held. The balance is also important, as well as the length and total weight of the weapon. The small sword is a great fencing weapon that is actually very effective. If you are looking for a quality small sword, there is the Cold steel small sword replica that is both beautiful and deadly effective.

Scandinavian Viking Swords - Perfect for Collectors

The knowledge we have today concerning the Viking weapons are mostly based on archaeological finds and also on Norse documents that were recorded in the 13Th century.

According to historians, Viking were all required to carry weapons, the quality of these weapons would clearly identify the social status of each warrior. Vikings were known to use single handed double edge swords but they were also experts at using axes as main battle weapons.

History report that the “Huscarls” the elite bodyguards of the King Cnut were armed with huge two-handed axes which were feared and known to be able to split shields or metal helmets with ease.

Viking sword are some sort of mix between the roman spatha and a classical knight sword. All of their blades were double edged with a great variation of pommel and guard.

According to my research, here is a good source for Viking swords. There you will find a great collection of battle-ready Viking swords replica and even some models for re-enactors. Each model is unique and made of high carbon steel. Those are perfect for the serious sword collector.

Rules For Carbon Steel Swords

Carbon is probably the oldest and still the most used and authentic sword material . This material as been used since the medieval ages to forge swords and is still used in our current society.

The problem that comes with this type of material is that Carbon steel rusts very easily. So if you are a collector or any other kind of sword lover, you need to take real good care of your carbon steel swords.

The two most important rules are:

  1. Keep your sword out of contact with air
  2. Keep your sword out of contact with moisture

All parts of your swords that are made of some sort of carbon allow are vulnerable. From Wrapped handles to the tips of the blade, you should always makes sure that there is a light layer of oil applied to these parts to prevent rust.

Sword made of carbon steel should never be stored in their sheath to avoid the formation of moisture. Unless you carefully grease or oil your sheath, you should follow this rule religiously. If you choose to oil or grease your swords sheath, take note that you must check on them periodically to make sure they stay in perfect shape.

Storage

It is very important to make sure your swords are not stored in a humid environment. Take not that every point of contact on your sword is a potential place for water to condense. Make sure you choose your storage carefully.

The best way to take care of this type of swords is to use oil or wax. Some sword maintenance kit are available to help you keep your collection at its best. More on that aspect very soon.

The Truth About Rapiers

The rapier sword is perhaps one of the most artistic styles of sword if you ask me. Those sword are light, amazingly attractive and a great addition to any sword collection.

It is common belief that rapiers were used for rapid exchange of thrust and parry like you see in multiple pirate’s movies or movies like “Monte Cristo” or “Zorro”…

Despite what most believe in our current society, rapier fights were very different than what we see today in modern fencing and what you see on TV are stunts and not a representation of how fights were conducted in that time.

The truth is that rapier fights were much more violent than you can imagine. Most of the time attacks were dodged and not blocked. It was a matter of being cautious and extremely precise. The only time an attack was blocked it was done in an attempt to deflect while continuing to make a counter thrust.

Most of the time the rapier was used with a parrying-dagger, a buckler or a cloak and in some cases even a scabbard. It was common practice in the renaissance for gentlemen to carry a cloak or cape which could be used as a defence weapon.

The Rapier fighting style was a major improvement compared to the medieval cut-and-thrust style. The rapier fighting style is all about controlling the distance, the timing and the technique.

Movie Swords - a New Possibility

A couple of years ago it was very difficult to even consider collecting movie swords. People like me were usually collecting army swords, medieval swords or Japanese weapons… But now with the power of the internet and with the initiative of multiple companies it is now possible to collect the props used in various movies.

Often these props are manufactured by the same company the designed them for the movies…Movie swords collecting is not as valuable as collecting ancient & antique swords, but it can still be very satisfying…

You see some collectors only collect items that have a high financial value, but not me, my samurai swords are of amazing quality and they are worth a lot of money, but I chose them mostly because I like them, I have no intention to ever sell these…it is the same with my movie swords, they are just for me…

I have written a complete article concerning

movie swords, please feel free to read it and learn a little bit more about this new possibility for sword collectors like you and i…
