Biography
Alonso Oyarzun was born in Montreal and raised in Edmonton, Alberta. Spanish was his first language and perhaps the ease with which he learned English was a sign of the creativity to come. As a teenager craving structure he joined the Armed Forces in 1995. He went on to graduate in the top three of his class and then took time off to travel to his native land of Chile and explore his roots.
Upon returning to Edmonton, a friend encouraged him to come to Vancouver to pursue a career in stunt work. Stunts quickly parlayed into acting and Alonso landed his first role on the series Stargate: SG1. He was hooked, that was 1997 and, as they say, the rest is history.
His feature film credits so far include The Core, Romeo Must Die and Reindeer Games. He starred in the miniseries BATTLESTAR GALLACTICA, had a substantial recurring role in Steven Speilberg’s 10 part mini-series TAKEN and his guest appearances include episodes of THE DEAD ZONE, JAKE 2.0, JOHN DOE and JEREMIAH.
Alonso just wrapped up several episodes on his second season of the series BATTLESTAR GALLACTICA in which he plays the popular Crewman Specialist Socinus. You can also catch him in theatres this fall opposite Billy Zane and Dennis Hopper in the feature film Mem-(o)-re.
Alonso currently resides in Vancouver, BC, Canada.
He is a huge fan of medieval weapons and loves to watch films such as Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, 300, and Beowulf.
